Iron In The Hills

from Weak In The Wild by Frances Smith

/

lyrics

There was iron in the hills
we were following the path
that led to the start, and the sky
and the rocks were grey, and silver
and sound was turned around
as the earth breathed beneath us
there's people in the streets you say
who would take it all away
no dreams were ever made that way

And perfect were your thoughts
but you had broken the sky
the glass water pool was shaking
a thousand years upon the ridge
hung in the ghost of man and boy
surrender not he said to me
but the roots had all been cut
where all the tall chimneys had grown up
and I tore your picture down

All the streets are in rows
there wherever you want to go
freedom fires built on desire
illusion sweeter, love turns bitter
the sky was covering it's eyes
the grey veil of modesty scarred
and Charlie's bar was now shut down
been too much blood on the ground
no dreams were ever made that way

There was iron in the hills
and we were following the path
