Weak In The Wild
03:38
|
|||
Her kindness couldn't keep him around
she held him until he found the ground
saying things will be alright
when he knew that love lost fast
would cut him deep inside
but the pain wouldn't last
And I saw him by the tree
feeding the wolf as if he were free
he watched the sky for clouds of grey
he was the chance, taken and caged
And I loved him for a while
thought I could see the weak in the wild
but in a while I saw him walk away
it hurts too much to stay, he'd say
it hurts too much to stay
there were chains that kept his lost heart hurt
and hurt that kept his lost heart chained
And the night bird calls out his name
as it hunts close to the clouds
Orion shining in the sky
tears at the heart of those who cry
And I loved him for a while
and there I saw the weak in the wild
told me he'd seen his lover cry
and it hurts too much to stay, he'd say
it hurts too much to stay
there were chains that kept his lost heart hurt
and hurt that kept his lost heart chained
And the thunder calls out his name
as it breaks the silent sky
and the hunter takes him home
tears at the heart of those who cannot fly
and he was weak in the wild
yes he was weak in the wild

From The County Gates
04:40
|
|||
There was the sky it was there
through the turning
and I was the one who was wrong
when I cried for the passing
of the summer's warm days
you were always awake and aware
and alive and surviving
Chorus
And I reached for your hand
said nothing's undone and the sun
hid the stars and the slow ghosts
who move from the hills to the sea
and we rode with them like we were free
from the county gates
to the harbour lights hotel
to the harbour lights hotel
Where did you go when the ending
had come there to meet us
all the people were walking
and holding, and talking, and leaving
everything changed with the winter
because the dark always stays
around longer
There was the sun it was there
it was burning
through all of the clouds in the sky
they were covering
and there's rain that's been falling forever
wherever the trees grow
on the hillside where we stayed for a while
And we were changed by the time
by the time, by the time
we were turning
repeat chorus

Leaf Fell
04:42
|
|||
Leaf fall as the wind blew
cold ground was her new bed
and she lay without colour
she was the earth, she was it's mother
Window where I met her
stars shine through the glazing
was swept away like all others
that made her mine and empty
Carrier heard the calling
took the journey through the dawning
steel plane grey skywards
lay on clouds, no bed was whiter
Bride wept for the lost day
she'd been sleeping through the winter
and the cold that's sometime ending
begins to dance sooner than summer
The watcher now was far weaker
he felt his heaven slowly shrinking
and there they live half alive
as the brightness burns their eyes
I am real, he said
I am real, he said
I am the author, I am the painter
I am the recoverer
the recoverer
I danced into midnight
day changed and I shivered
there's a fear I've been feeling
so I moved into vagueness
Watcher lay down his last words
he was the stone that crushed the sleeper
smooth as silk upon the ground
knelt the vision softly weeping
Is this all there is I was asking
and all around there was no answer
there was no answer
no answer

Falling
04:24
|
|||
You are the fallen one
and you are hiding underground
where the bridge meets the sky
and there is no room to fly
You are there on the street
chasing pennies like a little thief
you liked the shine though you knew
they were worth nothing when so few
Chorus
You'd been the fighter, been the night
been the angel, made things right
and as the dance had begun
you spun, and spun, and spun
You are the fallen one
and on the corner you stay
there waiting for the choices
that fly with so many voices
And I hear you breathing
as the moonlight shines in my room
and I reach out to touch you
but then you fade away
repeat chorus
There's a ghost who walks through reason
chasing the love he needs to feed him
and I saw you running with him
and then you were falling
Oh always you were falling
always you were falling
and then you were the fallen one

Landscape
03:49
|
|
||
Ice flower laid her heavy head down
in the perfectness of the sound
white is like the heat burned
and there you are
like the thunder that will come again
with the storm
Landscape loads it's love
and breathes
Dark trees line the road away
rise and fall and sway and pray
that green will swallow all your sins
and there you are
oh there you are
you're like the season that will
begin again
you're like the shining water that
won't break it's bond
and the oxygen keeps us living on
Landscape loads it's love
and breathes
and the arrow breaks the frozen heart
and through the fire there you are
there you are
landscape loads it's love

Iron In The Hills
04:00
|
|||
There was iron in the hills
we were following the path
that led to the start, and the sky
and the rocks were grey, and silver
and sound was turned around
as the earth breathed beneath us
there's people in the streets you say
who would take it all away
no dreams were ever made that way
And perfect were your thoughts
but you had broken the sky
the glass water pool was shaking
a thousand years upon the ridge
hung in the ghost of man and boy
surrender not he said to me
but the roots had all been cut
where all the tall chimneys had grown up
and I tore your picture down
All the streets are in rows
there wherever you want to go
freedom fires built on desire
illusion sweeter, love turns bitter
the sky was covering it's eyes
the grey veil of modesty scarred
and Charlie's bar was now shut down
been too much blood on the ground
no dreams were ever made that way
There was iron in the hills
and we were following the path

Willing Walked
04:07
|
|
||
Willing walked into the river
Willing washed away all badness
she wanted love the crushed no one
with the weakness of temptation
Willing kept her wounds open
she believed that she could heal them
and Willing waited for the cross to fade
oh WIlling did you watch it fall?
chorus
She took a journey that began alone
at the crossroads in the dark night
oh WIlling had a heart that longed for
the falling of the city
and Willing walked into the fire
There are no angels watching over
she told the fallen and the few
and then she tried to be one
until her goodness disappeared
Willing had reached out to hold it
but she couldn't see it through her tears
she wanted love to love her
she was a warrior child
Oh Willing walked in the darkness
and Willing wept with the wounded
and Willing wanted to win one day
and WIlling walked into the war
repeat chorus

Found
03:45
|
|||
I met my lover by the old church
as the green grass bent with the wind
that blew from the west like a devil
who swept away the peace I'd stolen
He was a shadow there to meet me
he knew who I was not
and he said I should go with him
as he was walking to the sea
I said no one's touched the cold stones
since they buried the forgotten
there'll be change and it's coming
and on the wave we can ride
He was a stranger to his own heart
he'd never let it love more than him
said they'll dig my grave first
before they make me weaker than I am
And the wind heard his words
and called the rain to come on by
the path it was a long one
and he was holding hard the ground
I met my lover by the old church
where no one walked to hear the bells
and we were there without reason
and we stole the peace we'd found

The State Of Now
03:40
|
|
||
The air was thick with love
it'd been bottled, delivered, and released
and he was telling secrets
to the lost goddess he'd found
she said she would set him free
There'd once been gold in the hills
but it was washed away
by the denier and his new plans
and deep in the woods the willow sang
but it will fade away one day, fade away
Chorus
And there were futures in the state of now
and there were figures in the state of now
and there were failures in the state of now
it'll be the past soon anyhow
And I was walking on the streets that day
while the talk was of delivery
the pinkness of the background noise
was covering the state of now
and all the restlessness rang out
repeat chorus
Said the woman with the long fingers
as she stroked the hands of time
and get ready to leave
oh get ready to leave
oh you're ready to leave
the state of now

The Stone Houses
05:46
|
|
||
There were stone houses by the river
and people in the windows
were watching the passing clouds
and the rain entered the streets
she was the creator of the wild and sweet
The pavements were full and crushed
the resistance had turned to destruction
silver bodies have to shine all the time
the wheels push towards the destination
but at the exit the believer leaves
The roofs were wet with rain
they could feel the rush of power
like a sign at the end of existence
the grey river was rising so fast
with the feeding of the wolves
They had come to collect the wishes
they heard the siren singing loud
meet me by the clock tower this hour
where the saint of the lost church
was gathering flowers for her grave
All the walls seemed to be breathing
the air had learnt to deliver less
but desire was dancing on the street again
she holds money in her tiny hands
and they spin and spin around her
And they think they'll be gathering again
and the think the energy is real
but it's given them all that it can give
and now it wants to own them in return
and she is calling the thieves
And the innocents watch wild eyed
at the weighing of the gold
they've been led before and left lost
as the sparkling sands burnt their eyes
they mistook it for deliverance
The shining metal made them cry
she spoke in the darkening hour
those stone houses are only there to trap you
and broken did their wishes fall
and in the reflective water drown

A Hard Peace
04:34
|
|
||
There was a way to lose a battle
and a way to turn around
and the oldest of the weapons
were lying broken on the ground
and you fought me for the choices
you once said were mine to take
and over the city the rain clouds hung
washing from the streets the evidence
of where love had once begun
The lowest point had been reached
by the men who fed their needs
in the alleyways that separate
the traveller from the deceased
and if that hill was closer to the sky
you could have looked towards the top
but the river still runs downwards
no matter how high you go
no matter how high you go
And the hard peace was only found
when pride had burned to the ground
and the ashes carried on the wind
had left destruction all around
And I think about you sometimes
when the first quarter moon decides to show
and lights in the windows orange glow
a ghost in the night rings out it's sound
there was nothing wrong in the righteous
when you needed it for yourself
but if you chase it 'til it's dying
then it's a hard peace you'll win
yeah it's a hard peace you'll win
When pride has burned to the ground
it's ashes carried on the wind
with the scattering of all that's lost
it'll be a hard peace you'll win
Yeah, it's a hard peace you'll win
oh it's a hard peace you'll win

There's A Moon
03:25
|
|||
You were alone under the sky
through the winter
and then the spring
and then the summer
while there was a moon, and it was shining
You held the vision of return
in your mind a while
where you slept beside
the cold walls that kept you
where you could hide
You tore from the fields the growing
gave to the wild the lasting
saved for the strong the fading
and fought for the falling
to feed them
There's a moon in the sky
and it's shining
across the water of the lake
reflecting
silver waves in the wind
Come the morning the sun is rising
holding the life of the lover
and the losing
there's a moon in the sky
and it's shining
