Leaf Fell

from Weak In The Wild by Frances Smith

/

lyrics

Leaf fall as the wind blew
cold ground was her new bed
and she lay without colour
she was the earth, she was it's mother

Window where I met her
stars shine through the glazing
was swept away like all others
that made her mine and empty

Carrier heard the calling
took the journey through the dawning
steel plane grey skywards
lay on clouds, no bed was whiter

Bride wept for the lost day
she'd been sleeping through the winter
and the cold that's sometime ending
begins to dance sooner than summer

The watcher now was far weaker
he felt his heaven slowly shrinking
and there they live half alive
as the brightness burns their eyes
I am real, he said
I am real, he said
I am the author, I am the painter
I am the recoverer
the recoverer

I danced into midnight
day changed and I shivered
there's a fear I've been feeling
so I moved into vagueness

Watcher lay down his last words
he was the stone that crushed the sleeper
smooth as silk upon the ground
knelt the vision softly weeping

Is this all there is I was asking
and all around there was no answer
there was no answer
no answer
